Household Words was a weekly magazine edited by Charles Dickens. The article tells a story of how Titus Salt allegedley discovered surplus alpaca wool in 1836 and started experimenting with it to produce cloth. This led to a very successful textile business and, as the article was being written, the construction of a large new mill in what was to become Saltaire.
