He had been a Clerk of Works at the mill and then became Sir James Roberts representative in Saltaire when the mill was sold. These letters to Sir James Roberts date from 1918 to 1922 when the pensions were wound up. He collected rent for Sir James Roberts, gave out pensions and generally looked out for his interests.
