• H2-208.140: Baker Letters - regarding: sale of the two mills and land, and boat house and land; new mill owners purchase houses

  Mr Thomas asked the price of the two mills and land. Mr Sutton asked about the boathouse and land. Mr Badland stated people felt the new firm should take the park as it was used by their tenants and workers. The firm bought 50 houses in Saltaire from Mt Thornton for £6250. Mr Willy send noticed to allotments near Masonâ??s Mill.
• 2020.16.1: Clive Woods interviewed

  The Audio CD is a partial transfer from cassette tapes of a recording of an interview with Clive Woods, local Saltaire bookshop owner, historian, and heritage campaigner. Clive is being interviewed by Graham Haughton of the University of Manchester. The recording of the start of the interview is of poor quality. Clive Woods talks about his part in the process of making Saltaire into a World Heritage Site. He starts by referring to the reopening of Saltaire Railway Station (closed in the 1960s) in the 1980s and claims that this was the start of the 'gentrification' of Saltaire. He goes on to talk about the campaign agains a proposed Shipley bye-pass that would have gone along the route of Coach Road next to Roberts Park. Clive also mentions some of the older inhabitants of Saltaire, church officials in the village, and Bradford Council having no interest in preserving Saltaire, but how they gradually changed their minds. He refers to the influence of the well-known historian Roy Strong of the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Bradford entrepreneur Jonathan Silver. He goes on to talk about the origin of the Saltaire Village Society and the part it played in influencing English Heritage and UNESCO in the preservation and protection of Saltaire.
• 2020.2.16: School exercise book for Textile department for 1912-1913 session

  Shipley Technical School - Textile Department note book. With'Students Name' 'Harold Kendall' 'Session 1912-1913' 'Subject: 3rd Year Woollen and Worsted Spinning' handwritten in ink. This exercise book was used by Harold Kendall while a student at the Technical School, now Shipley College. The book includes notes from his 'Woollen, Worsted and Spinning' classes. The exercise book icludes notes on: Textile Fabrics, Mineral Fibres, Sketches of rollers, physical properties of wool and other materials, Sketches of machines to clean and wash wool. How different countries climates etc. produce different wools. The quality and use of wools. Sketch maps of the different sheep in different countries, and the different yarns from sheep. Trade terms and names, wool values. 'Gret details for anyone studying the history of wool textile production.'

• 2016.2.18: Two part collar

  (i) Main body is double layered silk with 3 hooks and eyes to short edges and a buttonhold halfway along. A single layer of silk to one end with one hook. (ii) 3.5cm lace border of daisies in a wavew deisgn and apples and butterflies.
• 2016.2.32: Length of silk ribbon/trim.

  Length of cream and black silk ribbon/trim. A woven silk centre with a zigzag design above and below.
• 2016.2.37: Two pieces of cream silk lace.

  Two pieces of cream silk lace trim. Both of equal size and same design. Paisley and flower design with larger flowers to lower scalloped edge.

• 2024.14: Brimstone and treacle

  A large format book featuring the art of Govinder Nazran. Govinder. Govinder lived in Saltaire and was a graphic designer and artist. Govinder was well known for his depiction of cats and dogs and other mammals, often depicted in a Rothkoesque style. There are many examples in the book.
• 2024.32: Sir Titus Salt: The founder of Saltaire and its Mills

  A brief history of the life of Sir Titus Salt and his founding of Saltaire. Includes some discussion of Salt's motivations for building the village and Mill, and the proivision of amenities for the workers and residents.
• 2024.73: The Derwent Valley Mills and their Communities

  An illustrated paperback about the bid for the Derwent Valley MIlls to be awarded UNESCO World Heritage Status. The book contains the hisorical sections and the bibliography and glossary of the nomnation document submitted to UNESCO. The Derwent Valley Mills were successful in their bid and became a World Heritage SIte in 2001, at the same time as New Lanark Mills in Scotland and Saltaire.
• Salt, Isabel

  Isabel Salt, granddaughter of Sir Titus Salt, was the only daughter of four children of Titus Salt Junior and his wife Catherine. By the age of twelve her family had entertained two visits of Royalty and mourned the death of her father. By the late 1890s Isabel had started to work for the welfare of the poor and the independence and equality of women. She became continually active in the Women’s Liberal Association and became a prominent speaker on getting women’s right to vote, although she clearly stated that she was a suffragist not a suggragette. Isabel was also a committed and campaigning pacifist, a subject that became highly contentious during the First World War. Many of Isabel's campaigning speeches and letters to the newspapers are recorded in her own newscutting books, part of the Saltaire Collection alongside travel diaries, letters, photographs, clothing and an intriguing tin of acorns.

  Album with plastic pockets containing miscellaneous images and loose items. Contains 26 images in the pockets with 4 loose items. Images are a mixture of buildings, people, Salt family and mill and 2 images of Compound Engines at Salts Mill together with images of the railway station. Loose items include: poster from The Yorkshire Post and Leeds Mercury October 19th 1956 titled 'Salts Saltaire Ltd, Saltaire a guide by D Larvin'; a photograph of Titus Salt House Sailors Children's Society 1966; and an envelope containing a black and white image of Saltaire and farmland.
