  Brown ladies wool and worsted coat with 6 gold buttons attached to the front and 2 gold buttons attached to the pocketsl. The coat has an alpaca attached label - 'tailored by SnugKoat Made in England' and 'super quality, SALTS of Saltaire, all wool & worsted. Made in England'. The coat was originally worn by Mrs J Garnett (later Mrs Joyce Bowtell, wife of Albert Bowtwell)

  Laminated copy of Original Architects drawings for the Bath and Wash house, which was located on Caroline Street. This is the plan for a cross section of the building showing the plumbing, windows and giving an indication of the shape of the building.

• 2020.2.18: School exercise book for Textile department 1914-15 session

  Shipley Technical School - Textile Department note book. With 'Students Name' 'Harold Kendall' 'Session 1914-1915' 'Subject: Woollen and Worsted Spinning' handwritten in ink. This exercise book was used by Harold Kendall while a student at the Technical School, now Shipley College. The book includes notes from his 'Woollen, Worsted and Spinning' classes. The exercise book icludes notes on: Drawing, afirst operation after Combing, Extensive notes and drawings of textile machines and parts, Details of production of fine mohair, alpaca and camel hair, and cashmire yarns. 'Great details for anyone studying the history of wool textile production'.
• Nazran, Govinder

  Govinder Nazran was an artist based in Saltaire. He was known for his paintings of cats and dogs, and also of horses, elephants and people. The paintings were often done in a style of blocks of colour reminiscent of Mark Rothko. Govinder was born in Birmingham and moved to the Bradford district as a child. In the 1980s he studied graphic design at Bradford College and then at Lincoln Art College. After working in London and Cambrdige, he came back to the Bradford district and settled in Saltaire. Working as a graphic designer and then a photographic art director, he also pursued his own artwork designs. In 1999 Govinder approached the fine art publishers Washington Green who promoted his work until his untimely death in 2008.
• Sharp, Dorothy

  Over 6,000 Items make up the Saltaire Collection today and it all started with one person, Dorothy Sharp. Dorothy came to Saltaire in 1984 and was employed temporarily at Shipley Library, then located in Victoria Hall. Her first job was to sift through the local history collection to find materials suitable for schoolchildren. Later in 1984 Dorothy moved to nearby Shipley College as an assistant librarian and developed her interest in Saltaire's history. In 1987/88 Dorothy helped set up the 'Saltaire Resouce Base' - to support visiting schools - in the reopened Salts Mill, now a business, leisure and art centre being developed by local entrepreneur Jonathan Silver. Dorothy became known locally as someone who was interested in collecting and preserving materials to do with Saltaire. And so the donations came in, and the Saltaire Collection (as it is called now) was born and began to grow!
• 2018.36.3: Statement and Scheme for the reconstruction of Sir Titus Salt Bart & Sons Ltd

  A twelve page document, written on behalf of the trustees of the Will of Sir Titus Salt Bart. concerning the financial status of Sir Titus Salt Bart. Sons & Co. Ltd. in 1892, and proposals for it going into voluntary liquidation and of being purchased by a consortium of four local businessmen including James Roberts. This appears to be an official copy of he orignal legal document which is availabe as item 2024.66. Local historian David King provides a detailed description of the document in item A1-125.

• 2017.2: Sir Titus Salt and sons: A farming legacy

  Recounts the interest of Sir Titus Salt and some of his sons in agriculture and farming. Includes Sir TItus's continuing interest in this area; his fourth son Herbert who became a gentleman farmer rather than going into the textile business; and TItus Salt Junior's establshment of a 'model farm' next to his grand new house at Milner Field.
• Dining Hall building, Saltaire, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom

  The Dining Hall was the very first public building in Saltaire, completed in 1854. The Dining Hall served many purposes during the early years of Saltaire. In addition to serving 600 breakfasts and 700 dinners every day, it doubled as a school for ‘half-timers’, children who would work in the mill during the morning, then attend school in the afternoon. It also served as a meeting hall, library, reading room and a venue for religious services, public lectures and other meetings. As Saltaire grew, these functions were gradually moved to purpose-built buildings including: the Salt Schools on Victoria Road, the Saltaire Club and Institute, the Congregational Church and the Methodist Chapel. Today, the Dining Hall is owned by Shipley College and is known as the Mill Building. A major refurbishment and conversion in 1998 modified the interior to make it suitable for lessons, but the changes are entirely reversible.
