• H1-012.1: Dispute between Pamela Mason and Illingworth Morris Group

  Newspaper cuttings discussing the financial dispute between Pamela Mason and Illingworth Morris executives including Donald Hanson. Mason was a shareholder of Illingworth Morris and an actress between the 1930s and 1950s, most known for her marriage to and work with actor James Mason.

• C3b-046.3.2: Drawings for the Bath and Wash house

  Laminated copy of Original Architects drawings for the Bath and Wash house, which was located on Caroline Street. These plans are for the basement of the building, anotated 43, approved 1862 January 31st, Jo Thompson Clerk.
• H2-121: Map of Midgley Farm, Coach Road, Baildon

  Map of Midgley Farm, Coach Road, Baildon with a total of the acreage of farm and wood. The types of land (arable, pasture and tennis grounds) have been written on the map in red. Midgley Farm was part of the Robert's Estate and is detailed in H2-001 (Baildon and Shipley Rent Book) and aspects of the management of the farms in the Robert estate are described in the baker letters.
• 2025.55: Art Access Creative Textiles portfolio

  Portfolio labelled Ann Stuart Shipley College Art Access Creative Textiles. It consists of a large blue sketchbook with an orange and cream felt house attatched to the front cover.The portfolio includes her work investigating colour and pattern through printing and dyeing; investigating textures through construction and manipulation; investigating decoration of surfaces through applying new and traditional methods and investigation of the design process.
• A1-125: Notes on two documents related to Sir Titus Salt Bart Sons & Co. Ltd.

  Detailed notes on two original documents 'Memorandum and Suggestions',1883 and 'Statement and Scheme for reconstruction', 1892 relating to the Salt family business. The original documents are available as 2024.65 and 2024.66 (with a typewrtitten copy also availalbe at 2018.36.3). Local historian David King gives a detailed interpretation of two key documents in the history of the Salt textile business and Saltaire. The first doucment is a suggestion for a financial reconstruction of Sir TItus Salt Barts. Sons & Co. Ltd to meet its liabilities. The second document describes the status of the company in 1892 when it was facing voluntary liquidation and being bought by a consortium of local businessmen inlcuding James Roberts.

• Bradford Beer and Cider Festival

  The Bradford Beer and Cider Festival is an annual social event held in Victoria Hall, Saltaire. The Bradford branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) organises the event. It has run each year, under various names, since 1998 (apart from the Covid years). The festival usually features many tens of different types of beers and ciders. The event is very popular and attracts visitors from across Bradford, the wider region and beyond.
• Iwakura Embassy

  The Iwakura Embassy (or Iwakura Mission) was a diplomatic mission to North America and Europe from 1871 to 1873. Leading Japanese scholars and statesmen visited major industrialised nation to raise the profile of Japan following its period of isolation that had ended in the 1850s. They were also involved in trying to renegotiate trade agreements, and tasked with gathering information on modern industrial, educational, military and political processes and structures. In Autumn 1872 the Iwakura Embassy visited Saltaire as an example of a model industrial village and modern, integrated textile mill. They were interested in the amenities of the village as well as the mill itself.
• Walker, Sarah Anne

  Sarah’s career began at Salts Girls High School, where she was both a pupil and a teacher. Her academic success led to a scholarship at the Maria Grey Training College followed by a distinguished career at Southlands College, becoming Vice Principal. Sarah later went on to become Principal of Darlington Training College championing Frobelian and Montessori teaching. She opended one of the first open air nursery schools in the country. Sarah advocated improved teacher training, nursery education and the advancement of women both through her work and membership of local and national organisations. Her legacy continues today via student scholarships and grants.
• Mitchell, Hannah

  Hannah Mitchell was appointed Matron of Sir Titus Salt’s Hospital in 1899. She had trained at Kings College Hospital, London and worked at Bradford Royal Infirmary. Her 'job description' covered not just medical matters but all aspects of the hospital’s operation and management including fund raising. Hannah was an extremely competent, ambitious and progressive woman, a strong advocate of women’s rights as evidenced by her numerous letters in the local press. She was a committed Catholic and for many years, president of the local branch of the Catholic Women’s League. During World War One the hospital was designated a War Hospital. Hannah was extremely popular with the convalescent soldiers, raising money and organising activities for their entertainment. As with all women at that time, on her marriage in 1918 Hannah had to leave her job. Having stated she didn’t want any gifts the soldiers clubbed together and bought her a case of silver spoons. She died in 1936. In her will she left £10 (approximately £900 today) to the hospital
• Tennant, Emily

  Emily was born in Baildon to James Tennant and Elizabeth Willis. Emily began work in Saltaire Mill in Octber 1901 aged just 14. She worked in the spinning department until 1936 and then as a cleaner for a further 25 years in the engine room and later in the yarn office. In 1953 Emily received a Long Service Certificate from Salts (Saltaire) Ltd in recognition of her 50 years service. From 1911 Emily lived with her parents and sister in Shipley and died in 1974 aged 87 and was buried in Nab Wood Cemetery, Shipley.

• 2021.4.8.3: Conveyance of Hirst Mills

  The handwritten conveyance, dated 5th January 1921, is an original deed, transferring Hirst Mills and Hirst House, and land behind the house between the river and the canal, to Glyn Thomas. Registered at the West Riding Registry of Deeds 17th January 1921. The conveyance includes a coloured plan of the land referenced in the deed

The photograph has been retouched by WH Sharpe Ltd and is dated August 23rd 1919 and is mounted on board. On the back of the board is 'one of the carding rooms' and ' carding machinery ' written in red.
