  Postcard showing two colour photographs. One is the lodge house in Roberts Park and the other is one of the almshouses in Alexandra Square. Both photos are showing the large hydrangeas in bloom.
• 2016.2.49: Strips of heavily beaded cream netting

  2 strips of netting decorated with 7 repeated feather and scallop designs. 2 types of beads are used in the design, 2mm flat beads and 4mm round lustre pearl beads. Between the 7 main designs on each piece there is a small circular embellishment of small flat beads around 1 pearl bead. Most of the central pearl beads are missing. Scalloped edge of both pieces are knotted and frayed. Appears to have been crudely cut from a garment.

  Black and white photograph 15.2cmx10.8cm of two crests. One circular with S overlaying M in the centre and surrounded by leaves and flowers. The second showing a shield with a diagonal white cross and rose in the centre, topped by a helment ad a bird. Leaf decoration runs down the sides of this crest. Four holes have been punched along the bottom of the print. The printed image on the paper is 10cmx9.6cm

  A book of black and white photographs mainly from the commercial archive of Wood Visual Communications, Bradford. The book includes an 'At work' section which has several images of people involved in various parts of the textiles industry.

• Almshouses, Saltaire, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom

  Unlike many of his contemporaries, Titus Salt was determined to ensure a decent quality of life for his workers, even after they left his employ. In addition to the many educational institutions he built to allow workers to better themselves, he also commissioned the almshouses on Victoria Road. The 45 almshouses were built to provide shelter for those who couldn’t support themselves, such as widows and injured workers. Although preference was given to workers in Salts Mill and their families, anyone of ‘good character’ and unable to support themselves was eligible. Although this was unusually generous by the standards of the time, residents were subject to strict rules on their behaviour and the maintenance of the houses. In what is now No. 29, there was originally a small chapel to save residents walking down to the Congregational Church. On opening it, Salt is reported to have said: 'My sole desire is that you should be happy, and nothing would give me greater pleasure than to know that you are so'.
• Salts Mill, Saltaire, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom

  The first building to be constructed in Saltaire, Salts Mill was designed to manufacture textiles on a truly industrial scale. Titus Salt’s intention was to incorporate all elements of the manufacturing process under one roof, rather than each taking place at a separate location as his previous mills in Bradford required.Employing around 4000 workers, the Mill was the very heart of Saltaire. Part of Salt’s motivation to build Saltaire was his concern over the pollution and living conditions in Bradford. To prevent Saltaire suffering the same issues, each of the chimneys was fitted with an early device to remove pollutants from smoke. The Mill changed hands many times over the years. Following the collapse of the textile industry in West Yorkshire, processes were gradually moved out of the Salts Mill building. In 1985, the last processes were relocated, and the empty mill put up for sale. In 1987, Jonathan Silver purchased the Mill and refurbished it into the building we see today. Rather than a single manufacturing centre, the Mill is both the site of multiple new businesses and a cultural hub with shops, an art gallery and restaurant.

  Hardback book by John James. Centenary edition 1967. Originally published in 1841. Book about history from middle ages to middle of nineteenth century. Includes 'Topographical notices of parishes' and a pull-out map of the Bradford district in 1832.
• 2024.61: Scipeleia and all that

  Blue hardbacked lined notebook with handwritten notes and cuttings. Research notes about Shipley (Scipleia is an Old English spelling of Shipley) compiled in 1971.

• 2025.1: Black Dyke Mills: A history

  A history of the textile industry of Messrs John Foster and Son Limited at Black Dyke Mills in Queensbury, near Bradford. There are introductory chapters on the development of the worsted industry in the nineteenth century. Contains many references to Titus Salt. There is a chapter on 'The trade in alpaca and mohair' that contains information on the competition ánd collaoration with Titus salt on the importation and use of alpaca wool. Contains maps of the Black Dykes Mills complex from 1854 and 1881. There is a single page letter enclosed in the book presenting it from the company of John Foster & Son Limited to 'Mr Hibbert'.

  The Bradford Antiquary The Journal of the Bradford Historical and Antiquarian Society New Series Part 47 October 1982, includes illustrations and a loose copy of the 104th Annual Report 1982. D G Wright's Mid-Victorian Bradford : 1850-1880 mentions Titus Salt and Saltaire.
