• Morrell, George

  George arrived in Saltaire in 1860 to be an assistant teacher in the Factory School that provided part-time education for some of the children working in Salts Mill. By the early 1870s he was the headmaster, later moving to be head of the nearby Shipley Central School. George was a member of the Saltaire Congregational Church and long-serving Superintendent of its magnificent Sunday School. A life-long teetotaller, George promoted responsible drinking and was one of the founders of the Shipley Temperance Union in 1892, becoming President in 1902. He finally retired after 45 years of service. He was obviously fondly thought of and well respected. A magnificent illuminated presentation book was given to him on retirement, paid for by public subscription and to which Sir James Roberts and many eminent past-students contributed.
• 2025.70: Textile Voices - Mill Life This Century

  Book edited by Olive Howarth and published by Bradford Heritage Recording Unit 1989. Project Co-Ordination and Picture research by Tim Smith. The book includes life story interviews with members of the textile community together with photographs from family albums or by press and commercial photographers. The book charts the history of the textile industry, providing thought-provoking and surprising views from the textile workers themselves. Photographs of Saltaire are featured on pages 25,40,48 & 49
• 2025.72: Victorian Bradford

  Victorian Bradford - essays in honour of Jack Reynolds edited by DG Wright and JA Jowitt. The contributors to this book all had connections to Jack Reynolds and write about the development of an important industrial city in the nineteenth century. There are many references to Sir Titus Salt and Saltaire and extensive notes are provided throughout.
• A2-056: Inventory of Milner Field

  Inventory of the contents of Milner Field compiled for Probate following the earlier death of Titus Salt Junior. Milner Field was his family home. The inventory is a detailed list of all rooms and their contents at Milner Field, including all out buildings. Details include such things as the contents of the wine cellar, the books in the library, and items of furniture and household goods.
• 2022.76: Bradford Charity and the Public Purse: A history of Bradford hospitals from 1780

  A large format book on the history of medical provision in the Bradford area since the late eighteenth century. Contains many illustraions including images of doctor's books, posters and photographs. Includes mention of SIr Titus Salt's financial support for Bradford Infirmary.
• 2022.77: Salt & Saltaire

  A history of Sir Titus Salt and Saltaire by W.E. Alderson. Contains a large number of historical black and white photographs and more modern colour photographs. It was riginally a compilation of facts and photographs by the author and was not intended for public ation. It was published in memoriam after the author's unexpected death.

• B1-082a,c: Salts (Saltaire) Ltd marketing booklet

  An advertising booklet for Salts (Saltaire) Ltd. Contains text briefly describing the history of the business, but mainly concerning the workings of Salts Mill and the new mill at Uddingston, Scotland at the time of public ation. Contains many photographs of mill machinery being used to produce textiles. Also includes photographs of amenities provided by the business including: a hostel for women workers; a clinic; leisure sports facilities in nearby sports grounds and Roberts Park. There is some coverage at the end of the booklet of the new factory at Uddingston.
• B1-463a-b: Salts (Saltaire) Ltd - A Wool Record Survey

  A public relations brochure detailing the major modernisation of textile machinery and processes in Salts Mill during the early 1970s. The text describes how the space in the Mill was reorganised to improve efficiency using a 'flow line' principle of production. The entire ground floor of the Mill was restructured. There was large-scale replacement of machinery by up-to-date models. There are photographs of the new machinery, including: 'Scourmatic' large scale scouring machines; 'Volkman' two-for-one twisting machinery; Hattersley and Knowles warping machines and Benninger warping machines; Sulzer weaving equipment; and Mount Hope machines for wet finishing and weft straightening. There are also full-page adverts for some of the equipment suppliers.

Discusses why the group was founded, its cultural norms, its management and leadership, its relationships, its prominent figures, and the activities that were pursued. Also has accounts of how major events in the 1960s impacted on the group and its individual members.
