Frith establshed a business in th 1860s to photograph every town and village in Britain and provide them for the public to buy. The book includes views of many places across Yorkshire. It includes two photographs of Saltaire on page 28: the railway station with a train arriving and Salts Mill visible in the background; Saltaire (later Roberts) Park along the promenade with the bandstand visible and two women with a pram in the foreground. -

2022.20: Bygone Bradford A book of black and white photographs from the commercial archive of the Bradford Telegraph and Argus newspaper. The book includes views of many events and places in Bradford and the surrounding areas. Includes the following photographs relevant to Saltaire: page 113, the statue of Sir Titus Salt in its original position outside Bradford Town Hall (it is now located in Lister Park in the outskirts of Bradford); page 115, Salts (Saltaire) LImited private fire brigade pictured with their fire engine in 1939; page 127, the Salts Silver Band in the village in 1931. -

The upper postcard shows Gordon Terrace, a parade of shops along the main road at the top of Saltaire; some shops have awnings extended. The second postcard shows the Saltaire Picture House, now demolished. -

2022.3: An Italian Immigrant Abroad 1950 Handwitten booklet donated by the author Assuntina De Matteis during a surprise trip back to Saltaire organised by her daughter Rossana Pinto. This is a reminiscence of leaving the Italian village of Montefalcione on 20 March 1950 to travel to Britain to find work. Describes arriving in Britain and travelling to Yorkshire by train. Brief description of working in a mill (unidentified) in Shipley where it was 'very noisy'. Also describes staying in a nearby hostel with other Italian women similarly employed in the mills. Includes copies and transcriptions of postcards sent from Assuntina to her mother as she travelled to Britain. Also inlcudes copies of photographs of Assuntina, friends and of her husband who she met in Britain. -
