Harrogate is a large spa town in North Yorkshire. Harrogate was the location of a home of Catherine Salt and also of the 'Roberts' Memorial Home for Invalid and Cripple Children' gifted by Sir James Roberts to the Barnardo's organisation.
Haworth is a village near to Keighley in West Yorkshire. Haworth is most famous as being the family home of the literary Brontë sisters. Sir James Roberts, owner of Saltaire and Salts Mill in the early twentieth century, bought Haworth Parsonage and gifted it to the Brontë Society for use as museum.
Ilkley is a market town north of Saltaire, Shipley and Baildon in North Yorkshire. Ilkley was the location of Denton Hall, a large house in its own grounds that was the home of Catherine and Isabel Salt after they moved from Milner Field in Bingley in the early twentieth century.
A large town in West Yorkshire about 10 miles West of Bradford. Keighley was a market town that became a major centre for woollen textile production during the nineteenth century.
A large city in West Yorkshire, about 15 miles from Saltaire and connected to it by canal, rail and road. Leeds became a major centre for woollen textile production during the nineteenth century.
Liverpool is a major city on the north western coast of England. Liverpool is an important port, rising in prominence during the Industrial Revolution. Many raw materials and finished goods for the Salt textile business were routed through Liverpool. The Leeds-Liverpool canal was built during the late eighteenth century and siting Saltaire next to the canal was an important point for Titus Salt when deciding the location of his new mill and village.
