A1-036: The Great Yorkshire Llama Facsimile copy of 'Household Words' (Nov. 27th 1852) with an article entitled 'The Great Yorkshire Llama'. Household Words was a weekly magazine edited by Charles Dickens. The article tells a story of how Titus Salt allegedley discovered surplus alpaca wool in 1836 and started experimenting with it to produce cloth. This led to a very successful textile business and, as the article was being written, the construction of a large new mill in what was to become Saltaire. A1-126a: The Dayton Coal & Iron Company Limited (Rhea Co; Tenn; U.S.A.) Certificate of Shares Titus Salts Jnr. Share certificate in The Dayton Coal & Iron Company Ltd purchased in 1884. The certificate is sealed with a large red seal decorated with a castle. The certificate includes Salts Alpaca logo within the decoration on the left hand side. -

Scale is 15 feet to one inch for the ground floor plan, which occupies most of the page. There is a smaller scale plan of the first floor in the upper left of the page. -
A2-006/1: written quoteCopy of a hand written quote from Wormesley and Co of St James Street, Leeds 'Public Decorators and Bazaar Contractors providers of temporary room and marquees for balls, weddings, royal visits and coming of age festivities'. The quote is made out to Mrs Salt and is dated August 10th 1895. The quote is for fixing and laying a raised oak and walnut parquet floor in the drawing room and library and for the erection of a 60ft by 30ft ballroom with a polished parquet floor lined with amber and cream drapery, to supply seating and to cart goods to and from Bingley station.

Contains text briefly describing the history of the business, but mainly concerning the workings of Salts Mill and the new mill at Uddingston, Scotland at the time of publication. Contains many photographs of mill machinery being used to produce textiles. Also includes photographs of amenities provided by the business including: a hostel for women workers; a clinic; leisure sports facilities in nearby sports grounds and Roberts Park. There is some coverage at the end of the booklet of the new factory at Uddingston. -
