Limited and The Bingley Morton Shipley and Keighley Permanent Benefit Building Society of £3000, for the hereditament and Hirst House, Hirst Mills and weir. ( Includes a 'Certificate of Registration of a Mortgage or Charge' dated 6th October 1922, paper-clipped to the original mortgage Indenture, Catalogued as 2021.4.9.1.2) This document also includes a typedwritten note to the effect that the mortgage was paid off in June 1934. The Morgage Indenture includes references to Glyn Thomas, Bedding Manufactuerer of Hirst Mills, and his wife, Alice Edna Thomas. -

A1-037b,c,e: The Great Yorshire Llama1 of 5 copies of a reprint of 'The Great Yorkshire Llama' by Charles Dickens. The reprint is from Household Words Voume 6, o 140 published on Saturday November 27th 1952. The article tells a story of how Titus Salt allegedley discovered surplus alpaca wool in 1836 and started experimenting with it to produce cloth. This led to a very successful textile business and, as the article was being written, the construction of a large new mill in what was to become Saltaire.
