F1b-047: Timeline for Shipley Grange Transcribed extracts from newspapers and census records telling brief story of Shipley Grange, a large Victorian house in Shipley close to Saltaire. Built in 1840 it was sold in 1823 and therefater demolished and replaced by new housing. Includes twp photographs. -
D1-165: Photograph of attendees of a Saltaire Conversazione A photograph of a large group of people in Victoria Hall attending a Saltaire Conversazione. The group is posed with people standing, sitting on chairs or sitting on the floor. All are wearing evening-wear. -
2022.3: An Italian Immigrant Abroad 1950 Handwitten booklet donated by the author Assuntina De Matteis during a surprise trip back to Saltaire organised by her daughter Rossana Pinto. This is a reminiscence of leaving the Italian village of Montefalcione on 20 March 1950 to travel to Britain to find work. Describes arriving in Britain and travelling to Yorkshire by train. Brief description of working in a mill (unidentified) in Shipley where it was 'very noisy'. Also describes staying in a nearby hostel with other Italian women similarly employed in the mills. Includes copies and transcriptions of postcards sent from Assuntina to her mother as she travelled to Britain. Also inlcudes copies of photographs of Assuntina, friends and of her husband who she met in Britain. -

2018.51: Tree planting by Princess Beatrice A group photograph recording the planting of a tree by Princess Beatrice and her husband Prince Henry of Battenburg when they visited Saltaire to preside at the opening of the new School of Art and Science in 1887. The Princess is at the front centre, with Prince Henry on her right and Titus Salt Junior on her left. Three other dignitaries stand behind them. They are stood partly on grass, partly on a rug next to a tree which has just been planted. The location may be Saltaire Park (now Roberts Park) although the Princess was staying at Milner Field, the home of Titus Salt Junior, so it may have been there. -
