Barnsley is a market town in South Yorkshire. It has a strong industrial heritage based on coal mining, glass making and textiles.
Hirst Mill is within the Hirst Wood area in Shiplye, close to the western edge of Saltaire. It is now a set of private residences. The orignal mill was built in the early seventeenth century and operated in various guises until the twentieth century.
